I'm excited to present the lady that inspired me to use the words, "il bel far niente", on my home page.
It was a piece of jewelry she made with those words inscribed on it, that reminded me of the times I sat with my grandmother on her porch as a child.
We would eat delicious homemade fried chicken with mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, and cat head buttermilk biscuits, then have homemade apple pie for dessert.
After dinner we would sit on the porch together and she would tell me stories about my ancestors.
While we were talking, we played a game called "Count the cars"- we got points for every red car we counted.
Something so simple, yet so profound.
